700-Year-Old South Asian Music
Still AliveMore than a genre. A musical tradition built around poetry, voice and emotion.
Taste.
The ear that knows what it is hearing.
Zauk — ذوق — comes to Urdu from Persian and Arabic. It means taste, discernment, the appetite for beauty: not the ability to explain a thing, but the pleasure of recognising it.
Meet Zauk
-
MeetAzadCajon
Engineer, photographer, drummer, and a serial victim of hobbies becoming things that require business cards.
The mind and vision behind Zauk. Always has an opinion, a spreadsheet, and an unnecessarily detailed plan for the rest of the band.
Still insists he’s doing all this for fun.

MeetShahGuitar
Instructional architect by day, DJ by night, and an absolute wizard on the guitar in a timeline of his own.
From pop-rock to soulful qawwalis, there’s apparently no genre his fingers can’t figure out.
-
MeetTurzaBass
IT expert, devoted metalhead, and probably the least annoying person in Zauk.
One day he’s playing heavy rock, the next he’s playing soulful qawwalis.
His musical range is impressive. His Spotify algorithm is probably having an identity crisis.
-
MeetStephenVocals & Harmonium
The voice of Zauk. A voice powerful enough to fill a room, with the range and stamina to make qawwali sound effortless.
With a background in law enforcement and investigations, he’s probably the last person you’d expect to find singing soulful qawwalis.
He says he’s in his 40s, but we find that hard to believe. Apparently, reverse aging is just another one of his superpowers.
Live music for venues, private events and celebrations.
